The Research Center for Distance Learning in Manga at Kyoto Seika University will hold a pilot demonstration workshop for “GoMAP” (Global Online Manga Academic Program)—its project to develop a new online manga education program—at the National Taiwan Museum of Comics in Taichung, Taiwan, on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

This workshop offers a practical program for local high school students and adults interested in manga production. Utilizing a Learning Management System (LMS) designed for distance education, participants will learn basic traditional drawing techniques through lecture videos with Traditional Chinese subtitles. They will then work on practical assignments applying techniques such as line art, solid black ink (beta), and cross-hatching (kakeami), and submit their work through the LMS. Faculty members from Kyoto Seika University in Japan will provide real-time feedback and corrections, demonstrating the framework of cross-border online manga education.

In addition to the workshop, the event will feature a special lecture by Kota Toda exploring manga-related careers such as manga archivists and librarians, as well as a live drawing session showcasing traditional manga drawing by university alumnus and manga artist Onaya Reo.
